June 2009 Abilene Motorcycle trip : This trip was the fifth time my brother and I have met in Abilene for a multi-day cycle ride. Our first ride was in July 2003, followed by March 2004, July 2006, and September 2007. Abilene is 280 miles from Amarillo, and 240 miles from San Marcos, so it is a convenient mid-point to meet.

This year's trip was a partial repeat of our first ride in '03, but not totally. This trip included the following towns and interest points; Anson, Stamford, Albany, Cisco, and Eastland. On Tuesday, we rode to Stephenville, Dublin (with the Dr Pepper museum), Comanche, and Cross Plains, ending up back in Abilene. On day 4 (Wednesday), we split up and headed for home. It is a nice way to see these small towns in this part of Texas. My trip mileage was 783 miles.

July 2006 Abilene Motorcycle Trip : For a mid-summer trip in Texas, my brother and I rendezvoued in Abilene, Texas for a 4-day motorcycling trip. Our route took us from Abilene through Albany, Breckenridge, Graham, Palo Pinto, Eastland, Baird, then back to Abilene, Texas. Dairy Queen LOVES for us to take these trips! We locate some car dealerships and motorcycle dealerships for 'kicking tires'. We ride a while, eat ice cream a while, and then repeat. The many outside murals in Breckenridge are a public treasure. The 108 degrees on the Breckenridge bank thermometer was for real too! My trip mileage was 782 miles.

March 2004 Abilene Motorcycle trip : This trip was our second time to meet at Abilene for several days of motorcycling around this part of Texas. My brother and I refer to these trips as "Abilene cycle trips". On this trip, we started off by revisiting the Jones County Courthouse in Anson, Texas. Our original plan was to then head for Oklahoma. But Mother Nature intervened, with heavy thunderstorms in that direction. Soo, on day two of our riding, we headed south toward Del Rio. The highpoint of our trip was the Visitor Center at Langtry,Texas. We had a nice ride through the Pecos River area, and got some nice pics of the River from the high bridge there. On day three, we rode back north and visited San Angelo, Midland, Stanton, and Big Spring. My total trip mileage was 1,327 miles. (These images were derived from 35mm roll film, and the quality is not up to digital specs)

April 2009 Tire-kicking visit of Duwayne : This small album of pictures was made in April 2009 while Duwayne, my brother, was visiting us in San Marcos, Texas. Our plan was to (1) overhaul the front fork on my Suzuki Katana, which we did; (2) to take some day-ride type trips on our cycles to points around central Texas; and (3), to 'kick some tires'. We accomplished all of (1), almost none of (2) due to rainy weather, and (3) some of this objective. Hey, we DID find the only 3-wheeler Suzuki Burgman 650 on the planet and got our pictures made with it!

A February Day at Woods Cycle Country : On a clear, sunny day in Central Texas I rode my Yamaha FJR to Woods Cycle Country in New Braunfels, Texas. This trip was for the purpose of getting Woods Cycle, my authorized Yamaha dealer, to install a factory safety recall on my FJR. The dealership has fully completed their expansion, with lots of new shop space. Some of the former shop space was converted and integrated into a much larger show room. While I was there, I made these pictures of things in the dealership. Two of these pictures show the ignition switch with a bright red circle on it now. My visit was a pleasant interlude in the winter days.

David's Arai helmet pics : This gallery contains selected pictures which I have taken, showing my Arai helmets. In these pics, the helmet is seldom the center of focus, but it is 'always there', dutifully accompanying me on my cycle travels. There are basically 3 generations of Arai helmets shown; first is my Kevin Schwantz replica Arai helmet, which I wore in roughly the decade of the '80's; second is my Luca Cadalora replica Arai, which I wore in roughly the decade of the '90's; and third is my Freddie Spencer replica Arai, which I am now wearing, in the decade of the '00's. Since the order of these pics is not chronological, the viewer must decide which of these helmets is shown in each pic. I promise, no quiz is given at the end. I admit, I enjoy flicking through these pics myself, never ceasing to marvel at the magnificent beauty of America in which these pics are immersed! (David Allen, aka scooter78666)

A December day at Woods Cycle Country, New Braunfels, Texas : These are pictures I took on Dec 13, 2007, during my visit to Woods Cycle Country to have them install a non-safety Factory recall part on my 2007 Yamaha FJR1300AE. It was a fun time at Woods Cycle dealership in New Braunfels, Texas. They had the place decorated very nicely in Christmas-themed decorations. AND, how do you top a mountain lion, saying "I've been good!"? Way to go, Woods Cycle Country! I am happy for your success in the Central Texas motorcycle market, and glad to see you are getting some new expansion space on the south end of your dealership.

Arkansas Motorcycle Trip, October 2007 : My brother and I took this motorcycle trip in October 2007, from Texas to Arkansas via east Texas and eastern Oklahoma. One of our prime objectives was to attend the 2007 BBB Rally in Fayetteville, which we did. We mainly went to 'demo' ride the Kawasakis, Yamahas, Harleys, and Victories which were there with their demo fleets. We certainly accomplished that objective! After the BBB Rally ended on Oct 6, we rode the good two-lane roads of the Arkansas Ozarks. It was a great trip!

1992 Motorcycle/Van trip to California from Texas : My younger brother and I made this trip to California in April 1992. We took our two motorcycles in my Ford van from our rendezvous point of Amarillo, Texas to our initial destination of Modesto. We visited our older brother who was living in Modesto and toured some of the interest points around Modesto and the Gold Country on CA 49. Then we headed to Santa Clara for Base Point #2. We unloaded our cycles (his Harley Sportster and my Kawasaki ZL600) at Santa Clara, and rode to interest points from there. Those interest points included the AMA Superbike races at Laguna Seca, Monterey in general, Alice's Restaurant, and the PCH from San Gregario south to San Simeon. After we rode a lot of the good stuff there, we reloaded our cycles back in the van and headed through San Francisco for Santa Rosa, our Base Point #3. From Santa Rosa, we rode the Napa Valley roads, Sonoma Valley, Calistoga, Lake Berryessa, and points south and east of Santa Rosa. Then we rode to points north and west of Santa Rosa, including Boonville, Mendocino, Point Arena, and the Pacific Coast Highway back toward SF. We were loading our cycles to return home to Texas when news of the Simi Valley jury verdict on the Rodney King case came in. We hastened our exit from California, back to Texas.
