July 2009 trip to Huntsville, Texas : We met our daughter Susan and her family in Huntsville in July 2009. Cambridge Bosworth, our granddaughter was enrolled in a basketball summer program for point guards. We were able to visit the Sam Houston Memorial Museum while we were there. These pictures were all taken in the City of Huntsville, and most of them were taken on the campus of Sam Houston State University.

Sept 2003 50th Anniversary Trip for Matha and David : This gallery contains pictures of our trip to celebrate our 50 years of married life. We married on August 21, 1953. We started our trip in our red Suburban with a visit back to our 'roots', in Amarillo, Texas, our hometown. Coincidentally we were able to attend the every-three-years get-together of our high school alumni group "AHS 50th ALUMNI ASSOCIATION". After we left Amarillo, we headed west toward Arizona and Nevada. We visited Sedona and the Hoover Dam and Las Vegas. Las Vegas is worth the entire trip if you only get to see the Fountains of Bellagio and hear Sarah Brightman sing "Time to Say Goodbye"! On the trip back to San Marcos, we spent time in two of our favorite places...the LaMesilla/Las Cruces area of New Mexico, and the Fort Davis/Marfa/McDonald Observatory area of West Texas. It was a fabulous way to celebrate 50 wonderful years with each other! It was a fun trip!! Those words fit our 50 years of marriage too, don't they Babe?!

Matha's Birthday, January 1, 2009 : Sometimes the best birthday celebrations are those which just happen, without a bunch of falderol. On January 1, 2009, Shirley and her family came out to celebrate Meem's birthday in just that way. Shirley took us into San Marcos for an elegant Italian food dinner. Then we returned to our home for these pictures. Since Susan and her family (in Tyler, Texas) could not be here, I included a picture of Susan's BD gift to Meem as well.

December 2008 Tyler Visit with the Bosworths : On December 7 Matha and I went to Tyler to visit with our daughter Susan and her family. We had a great two days of visiting with the Bosworths. We went to All-Saints Episcopal School one day to take a tour through the newly finished Brookshires Athletic Facility. While we were at All-Saints, we also visited the part of the campus which has a delightful wetlands walk-over and outside chapel. We finished our visit with an evening of Christmas lights viewing in Tyler's Holly Tree subdivision.

Thanksgiving 2007 at Meem's and Pop's house : The Thanksgiving Day tradition is strong in our Allen extended family. This year of 2007 was the first year when we were not all able to be together. Susan and her family could not come to San Marcos this year since Cambridge had basketball team commitments in Tyler, Texas. We missed you, Susan and Michael, and Cambridge and Gabrielle. September 2008 Allen Reunion in Alabama : This album of pictures was made in September to include a visit of my brother Duwayne to our place in San Marcos. He and I had a motorcycle ride to Luckenbach, Texas. Then we drove our Suburban to Prattville, Alabama to attend a mini reunion with our other brother and his family. His three daughers were there for this reunion. Thank you, Virgina, for your impeccable hospitality!

Family photos at Sue's Memorial Service, August 2, 2008 : These photos were all taken on August 2, 2008 during the occasion of a Memorial Service honoring Ellen Sue Hopkins. The service was in Wimberley, Texas at the First Baptist Church. Following the Memorial Service, members of Sue's family walked to the adjacent Wimberley Cemetery for viewing her burial site. Ellen Sue was born January 5, 1936, and died July 23, 2008.

Pictures of Ellen Sue Hopkins, my Sis-in-Law : Most of these pictures are ones I made of my sister-in-law, Ellen Sue Hopkins in recent years. She was living in Wimberley, Texas during the period that most of these pictures were made. She was on a family mini vacation trip to Ruidoso, NM in July 2008 when she got sick and had to be taken by ambulance for emergency surgery in Lubbock, Texas. After our friends knew about Sue's serious illness, they sent me some pics of her, which I am including here too. Sue, my dear sister-in-law, we know you are in a better place now, where no pain, no sickness, and no sadness detracts from your joy.

Allen's Quick July 4 trip to Amarillo : My wife and I and my wife's sister made a quick trip to Amarillo from San Marcos to visit family and friends during the 4th of July week. While we were there, I took a motorcycle ride with my brother on my birthday, July 3. My wife also hosted family and friends for a small birthday dinner for me. We enjoyed a nice fireworks show with my wife's cousin's family, the Hudsons.

Marshall Family Reunion of 1990 : These pictures were made at the Marshall family reunion in July, 1990 at my cousin Floyd Terrell's farm place near Plainview, Texas. This family is descended from David Marvin Marshall, born December 15, 1877, and Josie Forence Eatmon, born June 14, 1880. They married August 2, 1899 and had six children: Ruth, born in 1902; J.S, born in 1904; Faye, born in 1907; Leta Mae, born in 1911; Marvin Glenn, born in 1916; and Lloyd Douglas, born in 1918. Ruth, Faye, and Marvin Glenn were alive and attended this 1990 reunion and their pictures are included here. Included at the end of this album is my last picture of Grandmother and Grandfather Marshall, taken by me in 1955 at their longtime farm home near Aiken, Texas. Two undated photos are included of them during vacation trips with Marvin Glenn's family. Also included are pictures made in 1995 of gravestones in the Plainview cemetery for Marshall family members. (Comments on this album or on individual pictures are welcomed and solicited.)

Cambridge's All-Saints Freshmen Volleyball game in Waco : These pictures were taken on October 16, 2007 in Waco, Texas. We were there to watch The Lady Trojans, Cambridge's freshmen volleyball team (from All-Saints Episcopal School in Tyler, Texas) play the freshmen team of Reicher Catholic High School in Waco. All-Saints won their game handily. I was not close enough to the court to get any shots of the game. This was the last game of the year for this freshmen team. Congratulations to you, Cambridge, and to your Lady Trojan teammates!
